Kashmir is known as heaven on earth and once you visit you will know exactly why it has got that name. It is very famous for pashmina shawls and the food that it has to offer apart from the mesmerizing views. Kashmir has a few historic places and also a lot of scenic places that you would enjoy. You would need to plan the trip for at least 6-7 days so that you get to visit all the famous places.


Ideal time to visit Kashmir 

The best time to visit Kashmir is from the month of March that is the start of spring season till the month of August. The summers are from March till May but it is not very hot during this time as the temperature doesn’t exceed 30 degrees also. It is not scorching heat but it is still a bit warm. During summers you can see a lot of flowers blooming in the gardens. The famous Amarnath Yatra takes place in summer and you see a lot of pilgrims. From June to September is the monsoon season. A lot of places don’t get enough rainfall so the weather may vary, but it is cooler than the summer. This might not be the best time as you might not be able to visit places because of the rain. The winters are the chilliest as the lowest temperature goes to zero degrees and doesn’t rise higher than 15 degrees. If you want to enjoy the snow and the snow activities then this is the perfect time. The weather would be really cold but the adventures in snow can be really fun at Gulmarg. It would be advisable that you carry enough warm clothes as it can get really cold in winters. So the ideal time would really be summers, but if you love snow and want to experience snowfall then visit in winters.


How to reach -

You can reach Kashmir by a flight, train or even roadways. 

If you plan on coming by a flight you will have to land at the Srinagar airport. Srinagar airport is connected well to different states. You will easily be able to get a flight to Srinagar, only if you are planning during the peak season make sure you book flights well in advance. Traveling to Kashmir by flight is the most preferred and the best option.

You can also take a train but you will have to get down at the Jammu railway station. It is a bit far and it will be a tiring journey.

If you are planning to come by road then the best is to travel from Delhi. It is also a tiring journey but if you are comfortable you can opt for roadways. There are also buses that you can take for Srinagar. 


Where to stay - 

You can plan on staying on houseboats or book a hotel. Staying on houseboats would be a unique experience. If you are looking for budget-friendly hotels you will have a lot of different options. There are a lot of stay options in Kashmir. 


Places to visit - 

The list is quite big when it comes to which places to visit. The most famous ones would be Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Patnitop and a lot more.

  1.  Srinagar has the very famous shikara boat ride on the Dal lake, historic places like the mughal garden and Nishat Bagh. 

  2. The next most known place is Gulmarg. You should visit Gulmarg in winter as it is known for all the snow activities like skiing, snowbo360-degreearding, etc. Gulmarg has it’s very famous gondola ride which gives the best views and you get a 360 degree look from the gondola. Skiing is very well known at Gulmarg, even if you don’t know how to, you should most definitely try it.

  3. Sonamarg has a lot of trekking routes and so the best time to visit would be in summer when you can see the beautiful flowers blooming.

  4. Leh is known for mountain biking and trekking. The 3 idiots movie shots were in Leh and therefore it is widely known.

  5. Vaishno Devi is a very well-known temple of the goddess Durga. To reach the top of the temple you can take a horse or trek to the top. If you want to reach really quick then you should take the helicopter.

Traveling locally - 

To travel in and around Kashmir you can book your own vehicle but if not then you travel by local transport. There are a lot of auto rickshaws and taxis that you will get which you can take for traveling locally. There are minibusses which travel on fixed routes but that is another means of transport that you can choose.
